Technical Update...
The main engine that drives progress at the Burns Media Centre is humming along just fine...so far. The new Hard Drive was installed earlier this week, but we had to wait for a new copy of Windows XP to arrive. Our upgrade version was not sufficient for some reason, when we tried to install it. Word to the wise as far as installation/rebuilding, never delete you main DOS partition when upgrading to Windows XP.

Virus protection on the new drive was installed in the wee hours of this morning and our the actual hard drive that stores our graphics was accepted, so for the most part, my production machine is back online and just in time for this weekend's edition.

Thank you for bearing with me as I sort this mess out.

More Time Bought
As the Dimensions Healthcare Board of Directors were meeting to decide the fate of the Prince George's Hospital System, news comes that Prince George's County officials have agreed to fund the financially strapped hospital through June 2008. The move definitely buys more time as County Executive Jack Johnson and Council Chairwoman Camille Exum seek to find a more permanent and sound solution for the Prince George's Hospital System.

The Examiner says that Governor Martin O'Malley calls the move a good first step.

O'Malley and Johnson along with the Prince George's Delegation came up with a plan which would have established an oversight authority that would have the power to tax residents, which was a sticking point for the council who said no to the deal. The rejection drew heavy criticism from state leaders both in the county and state government.

Technical Glitches Strike the Burns Media Centre....
Unfortunately, the main computer that this blog uses to publish articles have for all intents...crapped out.

So for at least the next couple of days, this will be noticibly light on graphics.....

Niemann: Council Failed It's Test
Del. Doyle Niemann (D-Dist. 47) came up with the plan that earned the backing of State Health Secretary John Colmers.

In his commentary this weekend in The Gazette of Politics and Business, Niemann said that when it came to this test of making a life and death decision, the Prince George's County Council failed.

Failing Health
This Sunday, we are starting to learn more of the action behind the scenes of the Prince George's County Council rejecting a proposal from the state to take over the Prince George's Hospital System.

The Gazette reporting this weekend that the main sticking point was the County Council not wanting to leave an eight year plan to the next county council in 2010.

That eight year plan would have set up an oversight committee that would have the authority to tax county residents for the hospital.
