It's Official Record: Spies Is In
Tim Spies, as reported first by Delmar-based Salisbury News, is running for Salisbury City Council this spring.
Spies, a retired nurse, served as president of the Camden Neighborhood Association for eight years. He was a charter member of the Mount Vernon Volunteer Fire Department, a former Red Cross case worker and a former chairman of the city's Weed and Seed Program. Spies is also the first one to publicly announce his candidacy.
Council President Mike Dunn, Vice President Gary Comegys and Lynn Cathcart are up for re-election, but The Daily Times says that none of them had announced their plans for April 3. Cathcart telling the paper that she originally intended to run for one term and that she would have to decide what would be best for her and the city.
A Partial Shift Of Access
Attorney General-elect Douglas Gansler (D) says that he is ironing out plans to move a portion of the Attorney General's division from Downtown Baltimore, to somewhere in the Capital Region.
Gansler says in The Baltimore Sun that the most likely candidates would be the Criminal Appeals Division, hoping to have the move completed in a year.
Gansler adds that there are a number of private practice attorney's in the DC Area, who might be interested in working for the Attorney General's office, if they didn't have to commute to Baltimore.
Gansler will be sworn-in on Tuesday, replacing the retiring J. Joseph Curran, who recently expressed an interest in leading IWIF temporarily.
Governor Robert Ehrlcih (R) has granted 17 pardons this week as a final act as the leader of the free state. More from The Washington Post who published a full list of who was pardoned.
Curran Working With IWIF?
Retiring Attorney General J. Joseph Curran (D) said that if he is approached by the Injured Workers Insurance Fund (IWIF) to serve as temporary president and CEO, he would take the job. The company severed ties to former Baltimore County Senator Thomas Bromwell recently before his up coming federal corruption trial.
More from The Baltimore Sun.
 First Non-Incumbent Candidate
Salisbury News is reporting that Tim Spies, president of the Camden Association, will be running for the Salisbury City Council. Council President Mike Dunn, Vice President Gary Comegys and Lynn Cathcart are up for re-election, making three seats available on the council.
Pollitt: Don't Be Too Cautious
Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt painted a good picture in the first ever State of the County address, but it was not "overly rosy."
The Daily Times said that Pollitt urged county administration heads that they should not be too cautious because it will breed complacency.
Pollitt defended keeping all of the department heads stating that change just for change sake is inappropriate.
The speech delivered yesterday around noon lasted 20 minutes.
Long Time State's Attorney Looks Back
Baltimore County State's Attorney Sandy O'Connor (R) has served in that role since 1974. She is the first woman state's attorney in the entire state.
During her visit to television hill, she told WBAL Radio's Dave Durian that she was not looking to be the first woman state's attorney, she was just running for the job.
O'Connor reminisces over her 32 year career before she retires this Friday on WBAL (1090AM).
State of Wicomico County Addressed on Thursday
Wicomico County will have it's first "State of the County" address tomorrow at noon.
County Executive Rick Pollitt tells The Daily Times that the finishing touches are being put on the final draft.
Insurnace Fund Denies Bromwell
The Injured Workers Insurance Fund (IWIF) has given former State Senator Thomas Bromwell a hefty severance package to quit before his federal corruption trial.
The Baltimore Sun says that the Baltimore County Democrat will receive $400,000, 18 months of health insurance and the option to purchase his company car at market value.
Bromwell served in the General Assembly for 23 years, including four as a delegate, before leaving Annapolis to serve as IWIF's President and CEO.
Anne Arundel County: District 31 Full Again
District 31 in Anne Arundel County has a new Delegate. William "Jay" Breitenbach will serve as a Delegate, replacing John Leopold, who won the County Executive contest this past November.
The Sun says that Breitenbach, who was Leopold's pick to replace him, will have a term that will last 15 days, including weekends.
Pelosi Honored In Native Baltimore
Incoming U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D) represents California's 8th District. Before she moved to California, she was born and raised in Baltimore's Little Italy Neighborhood at 245 Albemarle Street.
Now that block will be christened "via Nancy D'Alesandro Pelosi" this afternoon, in honor of the first woman speaker.
More in The Baltimore Sun.
It's also noted that her brother, former Mayor Thomas J. D' Alesandro III (1967 to 1971) will also be in attendance.
Montgomery County: Nice Guy Profiled
Montgomery County Executive Isaiah "Ike" Leggett (D) is profiled in Tuesday's edition of The Baltimore Sun. The former chairman of the state Democratic party is described as a nice guy politician by commentator Blair Lee. Leggett grew up in poverty in Louisiana who talked his way into college, who eventually became a law professor at Howard University.
Prince George's County: Rockin' Election Year
2006 will be a year for us political watchers will remember in Prince George's County. This is because of the constant squabbling between the people in power. Former Del. Rushern Baker giving County Executive Jack Johnson a run for his money. Many of the incumbent teams that we have known broke apart. Most of the County Council (who are Democrats) endorsed Lt. Governor Michael Steele(R) over Rep. Ben Cardin for U.S. Senate. Cardin was in attendance at the swearing-in of those council members. The Washington Examiner takes a look back.
Ehrlich Cashes In and Then Some
Governor Robert Ehrlich's "Dollar Bill" fundraiser not only got the attention of the state prosecutor (who later found nothing illegal about the move,) but it produced a near 6,200 percent return with donations totaling more than $123,000. More from The Examiner.
MDPT Closed For Christmas
Taking a break for the holiday. Merry Christmas to you and may it be a joyful and blessed holiday. Business will return to normal on Tuesday, December 26.
