In the recent editions of The Gazette, their Editorial Board endorsed the re-election of Governor Robert Ehrlich (R). They chided him however for taking the partisanship bait in Annapolis, but said that he has improved over time. They also lauded Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley (D) for improving over time as well, but they say he overstates his accomplishments while stating that his script is better for running for the White House and not leading the State.

Foley A Non-Factor...For The Most Part
A Republican Congress rocked with scandal, including the latest debacle involving Florida Congressman Mark Foley, you would think that would have an effect on Maryland Politics. One analayst says that it doesn't help Free State Republicans....but it won't hurt them either. I took that as a "it won't be a factor," but what say you? Read the article from The Gazette, then respond.

Miller Raises Stakes and Cakes..and Rakes in Money For O'Malley
State Senate President Thomas Mike Miller (D) in the four decades of public service has NEVER held a fundraiser for a gubernatorial candidate....until recently. The Gazette is reporting that Miller hosted a fundraiser for Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley's Gubernatorial Campaign at his Calvert County home. More than 100 people paid $1,000 or more to enjoy a fare that included crab cakes wihile taking a gander the view of the Chesapeake Bay and touring Miller's home in Chesapeake Beach.

WBAL Still Powerful
The Gazette profiles WBAL (1090AM) as a force in Maryland conversation and Governor Ehrlich's loudspeaker of choice.

Ehrlich: Cox's Disability Part Of A Paradigm
Gov. Robert Ehrlich was interviewed by Mark Plotkin on WTWP (1500AM) yesterday. Ehrlich told Plotkin when asked that choosing Kristen Cox as a running mate is part of a paradigm that he wants to represents. Cox is legally blind. After the commercial break, Ehrlich added that he could not honestly answer if he would pick Cox if she had sight, but given their relationship, she would be on the list. The O'Malley Camp smelling blood, distributed an edited version of the interview. More from The Baltimore Sun.

O'Malley Calls Meeting Productive

Now, people are puzzled by it. So reports The Gazette.

The Bloody Cake Thing Is Back!
At yesterday's Public Works meeting in Annapolis, Governor Robert Ehrlich was met with a nicely wrapped carrot cake.....It did not come from Nancy Kopp, the state treasurer. It came from Comptroller William Donald Shaefer, a man who said that he would not debate Anne Arundel County Executive Janet Owens on how to make a cake. One might think he should have debated Owens on how to make a cake, he might have won.

Anyway, The Baltimore Sun reminds us that the meeting after Shaefer got his clock cleaned at the polls, Ehrlich had the usual reconciliatory pound cake ready until Shaefer chided him (and the cake was promptly removed) (See Here for the original story)

The real news is that Shaefer abstained on voting for an SHA contract to outsource graphic work.

Shades of 2002 Continues: Black State Senators Concern
The Baltimore Sun says that Black Democratic Senators met with Gubernatorial Candidate Martin O'Malley and US Senate Candidate Ben Cardin over the lack of diversity when it came to statewide races. In particular, there is only one African-American on a statewide ticket for the Democrats, Prince George's County Del. Anthony Brown (O'Malley's running mate.) Some are still feeling the bitterness from four years ago when the Republicans put the first statewide African American office holder in Lt. Governor Michael Steele who is running against Cardin.

She ended up picking a White former Republican who converted to being a democrat days prior to his announcement.

Howard County: Folksy Giving Way To Hands-On
There are two 30-smothing year old candidates running to lead one of the richest counties in the country for the next four years. Both are more hands on as opposed to the folksy Jim Robey (D) who ran Howard County for the previous eight years (he's running for state senate.)

She dropped out after not receiving the back of the teachers union. She said a decision could come this week.

Wanning Dems in Baltimore
The Gazette has an interesting story of the current decline of Democrat Clubs in Baltimore. There are a few that are still holding on but for the most part they have been on the delcine since the 1970s. In the meantime, the GOP is eager and setting new ground.

New Laws Take Effect
The Baltimore Sun has details on a pay raise for election judges (before last month's debacle,) tougher dunk teen driving laws and a law banning protests at funerals.

The Assailt on Baltimore City Continues....
Governor Robert Ehrlich's (R) re-election campaign rolls on. Here's the lastest in the now WHITE HOT gubernatorial race. The Baltimore Sun is reporting that the Ehrlich campaign is sending out fliers to residents in Anne Arundel and Howard Counties implying that the Baltimore City Police Department is under federal investigation. The FBI is neither confirming or denying the investigation. In any event, the deputy police commissioner is calling foul.

The Ehrlich camp also released two new ads that are playing in the Baltimore Market. The ads take O'Malley to task on city crime and city schools. The Sun analyses both spots.

Gianettt: WWBED?
